Trip 1 - Final instructions

Hello All

Trip 1 sets off on Friday!

Please find a reminder below about the details for Friday:

The trip will depart from Idsall at 3:30pm on Friday 15th July and students should assemble on the gym patio straight after school.  Main bags, containing clothing and personal items (*) should be deposited in the old gym before morning registration (alternatively, parents can drop bags off at the old gym from 2:30pm).  Students are not required to wear school uniform on the day of departure, but should wear suitable / comfortable clothing for their day at school and the journey to Plas Caerdeon.  Students will also require a small rucksack style hand luggage to take onto the coach containing any items required for travelling.

*Please note that students are discouraged from bringing mobile phones, electronic games or DVD players.  MP3 players and CD players are allowed for use on coach journeys and for relaxation in the evening.  However, students should be discouraged from bringing expensive items as they are at risk of getting lost or damaged.  We also advise students to bring a disposable camera rather than a more costly digital camera.  Students must be totally responsible for the care of all personal items as they will not be covered by the school insurance policy.

  • Any medication should be clearly labelled with the child’s name and dosage, placed in a clear plastic bag and handed to the group leader or trip first aider on the day of departure.  Again, the group leader / first aider will be available at the old gym prior to morning registration when dropping off bags and from 2:30pm on the day of departure.  All medication will be administered by the appointed First Aider whilst on the trip.
  • If your child has an Epipen, then he MUST keep one on his person at all times and hand one, PLUS A SPARE to the First Aider, clearly labelled with their name.
  • Inhalers should be kept on the child’s person at all times and the trip leader / first aider will check they have these prior to departure.
  • Parents should not phone the centre – students will have the opportunity to phone home in the evenings using the pay phone at the centre.
  • You have already been asked to supply emergency contact information; if you have yet to do this, or are aware that these details needs amending, then please contact the School Reception as soon as possible.
  • Room lists are currently being organised and students can check who they are rooming with outside the finance office once this process has been completed.

We will try and keep you up to date with developments throughout the trip via the ‘Idsall Plas C’ twitter feed (@IdsallPlasC) and photos from the trip will be uploaded onto the school’s student drive (O drive) by the time they return in year 8.

I have detailed below the recommended kit list issued by Plas Caerdeon Education Centre.  I hope this will be useful in guiding you about what your child will need to bring with him/her.  As there are no costs to pay on site we advise that your child needs only to bring a small amount of money (£10-15, including 20ps or 50ps for the phone) as they may wish to buy gifts / snacks etc during their stay.

On the day of return to Idsall, Monday 18th July we will leave Plas Caerdeon at 1:30pm and are expected to arrive back at Idsall for 3:30pm.  Please ensure arrangements are in place for your child to be collected from school at this time.

Plas Caerdeon Outdoor Education Centre
Equipment List - Schools

So that students can get the best from their participation in outdoor activities, it
is important they kit themselves out properly.
That doesn’t mean buying the most expensive waterproofs or bringing along the
latest designer-label trainers. Old clothes are the best ones - new clothes don’t

usually come home in the same state!
The centre will provide the following if required:

waterproof jacket and overtrousers
day rucsac
fleece jumper
fleece hat
walking boots - though students often find their own boots more comfortable
specialist equipment for activities will be provided
For outdoor activities you will need to bring:

Warm layers - lots of thin layers are better than one large thick layer (fleecetype
jumpers are ideal)
Trainers
Wellingtons
Old trainers if kayaking
Thick walking socks (several pairs)
Gloves
Hat
Swimming costume (for watersports)
Thermos flask (preferably unbreakable) or drinks container
Lunch box

towel
cheap camera
Don’t forget

a change of clothing for indoor use, particularly footwear.
Bed linen and duvets are provided by the centre.

If you have any questions or queries about the trip please don’t hesitate to contact me at school.

Yours sincerely

Mr G Summerhayes
